Former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP (SP) leader Anil Deshmukh was seriously injured after stones were hurled at his car in Nagpur district on Monday night. The incident occurred as Deshmukh was returning to Katol after attending a meeting in Narkhed village. Police are investigating the attack, which occurred on the last day of campaigning for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections.
Merely being prosecuted on money laundering charges is not a sufficient ground to deny permission for passport renewal, a special court in Mumbai has said while granting nod to former Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh's son to apply for renewal of his passport.
Singh asserted that Deshmukh set a staggering collection target of Rs 100 crore for his officers, specifically from Mumbai, while also discussing plans to target key opposition figures, including former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Deshmukh said, "The ED has provisionally seized my family's property estimated at around Rs 4 crore"
The former minister, who received injuries during the attack, was immediately rushed to the Katol Civil Hospital, police said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has opted not to grant tickets to eight MLAs, followed by Congress which replaced five MLAs.
The IAS officer said that most of the names mentioned in the 'unofficial list' used to figure in the final transfer order as well.
The ED case came about after the CBI first carried out a preliminary enquiry followed by filing a regular case on the orders of the Bombay high court that asked it to look into the allegations of bribery made against Deshmukh by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
